OnSite Retail Group brokers sale of historic restaurant property

October 21, 2025

OCTOBER 20, 2025 – The property that housed one of Cincinnati’s most historic restaurants, Mecklenburg Gardens, has sold in a deal brokered by Josh Rothstein of OnSite Retail Group.   The Corryville Community Development Corp. closed on the purchase of the property at 302 University Avenue near the University of Cincinnati on October 13th.  The non-profit developer wanted to preserve the historic property, and they have hopes of attracting a German restaurant or a brewery following some needed refurbishments.

Cincinnati Business Courier staff reporter, Brian Planalp, broke the news of the sale writing, “Josh Rothstein, with OnSite Retail Group, represented both the seller and the Corryville CDC in the transaction.  Rothstein told the Business Courier it isn’t easy right now to find bar and restaurant operators willing to take over what he described as “second-generation” opportunities.  Rothstein explained to Planalp, “We’ve had to get far more creative when listing these types of properties.  Thankfully, the Corryville CDC figured out how to make it work, and I’m delighted to have secured them as the buyer so they can delicately reactivate this landmark while preserving its integrity.”  Click here to read the full story: Corryville CDC buys historic Mecklenburg Gardens for $1.2M – Cincinnati Business Courier
