Rising grocery costs are pushing budget-conscious shoppers to search harder for value and they’re increasingly finding deals on food and beverages at Dollar Tree and Dollar Tree-owned Family Dollar – both represented by Cincinnati, OH-based OnSite Retail Group.  Both retailers have increased their investments in consumables merchandising and it’s showing as the rise in sales from consumables is outpacing discretionary items.  As reported by Heather Lalley in Winsight Grocery Business, “For the second straight quarter, consumables’ same-store sales outpaced discretionary sales at Dollar Tree, the retailer reported last week, with a 9.3% comparable in food and beverage, snacks and cookies, and candy.
